Emmeline Lisette Laurent
Emmeline Lisette Laurent was born one Marie Sophie Helen Beatrice de Bourbon on 9th July 1786, and was the fourth child and second daughter of King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette of France. She was, indeed, the daughter of the Queen infamous for her historical declaration of "Let them eat cake!". However, the history books state that the fourth child of the King and Queen died just eleven months after her birth, and was buried in the same cemetary as her older brother and first son of the monarchs and the Dauphin of France at the time of his death. What is documented in history and what the reality of the events were, however, are very different and the Princess affectionately known as Sophie Beatrice survived well beyond the believed eleven months.
It was believed that the child was sickly from birth, physicians despondent as to her living to her first birthday. When the child's health took a turn for the worse as her first birthday drew nearer, she was read her Last Rites far too prematurely and her family became resolved her death was imminent. However, in the early hours of the morning of 19th June 1787, one of the physicians pronounced her death and the infant's body was removed from her quarters for burial. The physician wasn't a medical professional at all, but rather a close personal advisor of one Blaise Richelieu, and just like his leader, was a vampire of the Kindred bloodline. Blaise, then the Ventrue Primogen of Paris, had heard via various correspondence that the King and Queen of France had lost all hope on their youngest child's survival, and ordered his advisor to infiltrate the palace and rescue the infant, for she was a direct descendent of his brother, King Henry II of France, and Blaise had taken a personal interest in her upon her birth. He understood what it was like to be a "spare" to an heir and with Queen Marie Antoinette causing unrest with her reputation, Blaise had watched his ancestors from afar.
The child was placed in the care of a kind-hearted, yet barren, French couple in the French countryside well away from the palace in Versailles, at Blaise's request and they named her Emmeline Lisette. They raised her in a simple yet loving environment with the understanding that she would be brought to Paris on her twenty-first birthday to be educated and taught the ways of a much more opulent life deserved of royalty with her distant ancestor, Blaise. She was pure and innocent when she arrived, and they then travelled to visit Blaise's close friend in Scotland, Ealasaid Loudain, who began to teach the young woman the pleasures of fine arts and how to hold herself as a wealthy woman in the fickle world of Paris, and she took to it like a duck to water.
It soon became time for her to learn of her true roots, however, and as well as being taught of the mortal world, she began to learn of Kindred and The Masquerade, discovering what Blaise and Ealasaid truly were, and who her real parents were. It took a long time to absorb all the facets of the tale, but she was a fast learner and was soon drawn deeply within the Kindred realm, harbouring much respect for her relative and his mate. Although he had always wanted the young woman to know the truth, he never had intentions that she would yearn to be Embraced, and passionately and angrily refused the request when she approached him one day with it. It was the cause of one of the most poignant arguments between Blaise and Ealasaid in their history together. They very rarely argued, but when they did, it could be disastrous. Ealasaid was more open-minded to Emmeline's request, believing she would be a fine addition to the Kindred world with her deep understanding of it, and indeed knew deep inside that Emmeline was a natural Toredor. It took months to convince Blaise, but he had no choice but to relinquish his stubbornness when Emmeline's choice never once wavered. She wanted to be Kindred, and she wanted to draw more from life than her mere expected decades as a mortal.
As a gift for her 25th birthday, Blaise gave his permission for Ealasaid to Embrace Emmeline, and the event occurred that evening, with relief that she would have the royal bloodline, even as Kindred, that she deserved. Blaise's heart was still torn in two over it, but he eventually came to realise it was the right choice. Ealasaid was an immaculate Sire and she and Emmeline became close like older and younger sisters as the years progressed and Emmeline found her Kindred feet. She now affectionately refers to Blaise as her uncle to tease him, despite the fact that in physical age, he is only two years older than she is. Together, the women take great pleasure in teasing Blaise and he just wears it... most of the time.
Today, Emmeline is an internationally reknowned supermodel with her adopted parents amusingly being descendants of famous designer, Yves Saint Laurent. Like a true Toreador, her love for fine clothes and beautiful things only increased over the years, and she transitioned from being a regular subject for art and portraits into modelling when the trend hit its peak. She eludes any questions of ageing by continuously changing her look to match generations, and continuously changing her public name. Currently, she is known to the fashion world as simply 'Alyce', and The Masquerade does the rest. She resided with Blaise in the Richelieu Manor on the outskirts of Paris, however she has just relocated indefinitely to New York City with her companion, Rocco Valentini to assist her blood brother, Logan Buchanan in a sticky situation he and his lover have gotten themselves into...
Within a vampire bloodline known as The Kindred, seven vampire clans are collectively joined, forming the largest sect of vampires called the Camarilla, and survive through the Masquerade, disguising themselves as humans. Camarilla policy is that vampires should try to fit in with and hide from the rest of humanity, as to easily feed on them. For this reason, they created a web of lies and misinformation, called the Masquerade, to make the public believe that supernatural beings like vampires could not possibly exist. The Camarilla also believes that the only way the vampire species can survive in these modern nights is if it unite. Any breach of the Masquerade by any vampire risks exposing the entire race. Both viewpoints are fundamentally opposed by the Sabbat, an opposing sect to the Camarilla. The Camarilla also enforces the Eldest as ruling class over the younger vampires. The seven clans of the Camarilla are Ventrue, Brujah, Malkavian, Toreador, Gangrel, Tremere and Nosferatu. When a human is turned by a Kindred vampire, it is known as the Embrace, the vampire siring the human to embrace them into their own bloodline.
Each city has a ruler, a "Prince" who enforces the laws of The Masquerade that govern them to protect their anonymity. A clan is a group of vampires "related" by blood; i.e. the vampiric equivalent of an extended family or lineage. A clan is usually a large group, acknowledged widely in the vampiric society. Each clan nurture their own characteristics and traits, and each clan has its strengths and weaknesses. Often the clans do not always get along with certain clans such as the Brujah and the Ventrue actually hating one another. Each clan within a given area has a representative, a Primogen, who is usually the eldest and most powerful member of the clan, who attends the leader or prince's advisory council. This status also grants the character social advantages and greater power than being a normal member of their clan.

The Toreador are some of the most beautiful and glamorous of the Kindred. Famous (and infamous) as a clan of artists and innovators they are one of the bastions of the Camarilla, as their very survival depends on the façades of civility and grace on which the sect prides itself. In the middle age, the Toreador were a member of the High Clans, and their numbers were made up of the same types that are common in the modern nights - minstrels, painters, poets and actors. The Toreador revelled in the Victorian age. The Industrial Revolution led to a phenomenon that only the rich had been previously afforded - leisure time. A heyday of theatre, music and art began in cultural nexuses like New York, London and Paris and spread throughout the globe. While the influence of the Church in people's lives (and consequently, the influence Toreador held over the church) waned, those Kindred that latched themselves onto businessmen prospered. Possibly the one thing most Toreador love with the exception of beauty is money, and it was now accessible from places other than the landed gentry of the time. While the Clan has had peaks and troughs, this was a time that cemented them as a true power in the Camarilla.
It is said that while the Ventrue are the mind of the Camarilla, the Toreador are its soul. The Toreador portray themselves as the vampires closest to the living breathing pulse of the humans around them (though this honour might be shared with the Brujah). They claim that this is what keeps them so vital and modern. Indeed, Clan members are often the first ones to be aware of what mortals are wearing, eating, buying and sleeping with. The weakness of the Toreador Clan is that the members of this clan are as much prisoners of their artistic vision and sensitivity as they are its beneficiaries. They are often overcome by the beauty they see around them, and become immobilized with fascination. Such things as paintings, neon signs, or even sunrises can captivate them. It requires a successful Willpower roll to break the fascination quickly; otherwise, the Toreador will stand, awed and helpless, for minutes or even hours. This trait explains why Toreador so often fall in love with mortals.

NOIRE NEW YORK // noirenewyork
Emmeline's backstory is as above for this verse, however she has now come to be based in New York City for her modelling career. She is still an international supermodel, and one of the most prized faces of fashion label by Asher Rose, Asheresque and her presence in New York is vital. She is more than aware of what Asher Rose's fate has become, and just how extensive his Kindred connections are, but her world is about to take an interesting twist when she comes to meet Kurt's marketing genius, Lilah Ryckaert...

Emmeline is an original character; a vampire of the Ventrue Clan from the Vampire: The Masquerade roleplay game, and later the TV series based on the game, Kindred: The Embraced. Her world will have elements from both fandom realms, brought together here for the purpose of LJ roleplay and muse writing, however for the purpose of writing her, she will mostly be drawn from the story based in the TV series. There will be some elements from the roleplay game, however because it is such an extensive and intricately-woven world, I will only take a few elements here and there to construct Emmeline's backstory, likely primarily in regards to the Toredor Clan and Kindred as a whole. Any of her history in regards to her French lineage and royalty are completely fictional. This is just my tweaking of historical events for the purpose of fiction and Emmeline's backstory.
